Courses and Curriculum:
Qatar Academy Sidra offers a rigorous curriculum that is influenced strongly by the beliefs and curriculum of the International Baccalaureate Programme, as well as recognized educational research institutions such as AERO and leading institutions in literacy, mathematics etc. As a Primary years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) candidate school, our program is growing to encompass the IB learner Profile as a foundational piece of our curriculum. What we expect students to learn, know, understand and do is achieved through a student – centered approach to learning, with a focus on thinking, an emphasis on interaction, a concentration on character and a culture of inclusion.
Courses include Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Arabic and Islamic Studies, Qatar History, Music, Art and Physical Education.
What Makes Your School Unique?
Qatar Academy Sidra is one of the newest Qatar Foundation schools and it is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) World School Programme, offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MPY) and the Diploma Programme (DP). There are more than 4000 IB World Schools in the world. These IB programmes are recognized by the best universities in the United States, Canada, and Europe (http://www.ibo.org/benefits). The IB programmes aim to develop students who are inquirers, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are motivated to succeed.
The IB Diploma Programme (DP – Grades 11 & 12)) that we will offer once authorized at Qatar Academy Sidra is designed for students who want a well-rounded education. All DP students choose six courses that they will study for two years. Three of these courses will be Higher Level courses that are very rigorous. If students do well in these courses they can count as first year university credit courses.
For the 2016 -17 school-year our goal is to offer the following IBDP courses: Language and Literature English, Language and Literature Arabic, Acquisition Arabic, Spanish ab initio, History, Biology, Environmental Systems and Societies, Visual Art, Mathematics, and Mathematical Studies. We have small classes, well trained teachers, and a university counselor for helping students choose a career path and apply to universities.
All of these three programs; the PYP, MYP and DP enable students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development by learning through experience. It provides opportunities for self-determination and collaboration with others, fostering a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment from their work.
Students who thrive in a demanding learning environment do well in IB. If your child is strong in English and wants an excellent high-quality education then Qatar Academy Sidra’s Programme would be a good fit.
